Regulated waste is liquid or semi-liquid blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) and contaminated items that would release blood or other potentially infectious materials in a liquid or semi-liquid state if compressed. This also includes items that are caked with dried blood or other potentially infectious materials and are capable of flaking off or releasing these materials during handling. Properly labeled and bundled waste needs to be handled according to the facility’s disposal procedures, state and local requirements. Do not dispose in normal trash.
